oak footstool recycled parts
Whenever possible we will us recycled products. Our footstools are almost all recycled. The legs and sides are made from material that is too small or was rejected from another furniture manufacturer. The leather tops are new but are leftovers from a large furniture manufacturer. The padding is new. Some of the material for larger projects comes from retired church pews or tables.
We will plane or sand off the old finish and choose the best pieces from the material to be recycled. Our finished product will as good as new.
We use Solar Heating to supplement the heat requirements in the workshop. The solar panels are made of old metal siding that has been painted flat black and then covered with glass from old patio doors. Outside air comes in from the bottom of the frame passes behind the metal siding and is blown into the shop by an old circulating fan. A thermostat controls the fan. On a cold day, with full sun, the fresh air coming into the shop can be as much as 30-35 degrees C  higher than outside.  (-10C outside to +20C inside) The normal temperature in the shop is 12C and on a good day the solar heater will raise the temperature to 19C. The siding and glass were free, the fan was $5.00 and the thermostat $20.00. Other parts etc. may account for another $10.00. So for the past 10 years I consider it free heat.
